Frank Lloyd Wright Tours and Lunch

Johnson Wax Research Facility and Wingspread

A tour bus will pick us up at Grand Geneva and take us on a 50 minute ride to The Johnson Wax Research Facility in Racine, Wisconsin. The Facility provides a one hour tour of the Frank Lloyd Wright designed buildings of the S. C. Johnson world headquarters which highlights the company's legacy of visionary thinking and products.  We will see two facilities designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, down to the furniture created to ensure employee efficiency.  Next, we will travel a few mikes north along Lake Michigan to Reefpoint Brew House.  The lakefront restaurant has beautiful views and interesting food.  Finally, we will travel a few miles to Wingspread, the Prarie-Style home Frank Lloyd Wright designed for SC Johnson's third generation leader.  This tour and film highlights remarkable features in the 14,000 square foot house that Wright experimented with

The Grand Geneva Trolley will take us into the Lake Geneva boat docks where we will get on a lovely antique boat for a 45 minute narrated tour with seating both inside and outside.  We will arrive just as the Conrad Seipp family did in 1888.  The historic Black Point Estate is located on a bluff overlooking the south end of Lake Geneva.  There are a series of approximately 100 steps with landings from the pier to the house.  The key word is landings.  Transportation can be arranged if someone wants to tour the mansion but not go by boat.  We will be given a guided tour of the first two floors of the mansion and the exterior grounds which will last approximately 1-1/2 hours.  We will further explore the elegant trappings of this summer estate built by a Chicago beer baron to get away from the heat and bustle of the city.  The return trip to Lake Geneva by boat will also include a narrated tour and a box lunch from Potbelly's.  Please note on your registration form if you need transportation other than by boat.

Walking tour. Lunch and shopping

Our trolley will take us to downtown Lake Geneva where we will go on a shore walking tour, eat lunch at Sprecher's which is known for its homemade root beer and then shopping. The one mile walking path is part of a public path that goes the entire distance around the lake.  A Pottawatomie Indian treaty signed in 1833 guarantees public access which the land owners are required to maintain.  We might walk by the Rockefeller, Wrigleys, or the Swifts estates.  After lunch we will spend time shopping in the number of beautiful shops.  Downtown Lake Geneva offers a wide range of retail choices from antiques and art to fashion, jewelry, crafts and numerous specialty shops.
